Cougars (Mountain Lions) are frequently spotted on acreages and farms in and around the Crowsnest Pass. Although less frequent, cougars can be spotted within towns in the Pass.

Their colouration ranges from a yellowish brown to grayish brown, and a paler colour on the undersides.
 
SIZE:   Males slightly over 2m, Females just under  
WEIGHT:   Average for males: 71kg, females: 41kg  
LIFE-SPAN:   18 to 20 yrs  
HABITAT:   Their habitats include coniferous forests, grassland, and swamps. Dense vegetation, caves, crevices provide shelter.  
   
DIET:   Cougars are carnivores and hunt only at night. Prey include moose, elk, white-tailed & mule deer, squirrels, most small animals.
